Just in Time for the Holiday Season… ‘Aliens on Ice’

“Skate away from her, you bitch!” This is really real folks. Check out the video below…
[From Fear.net]

Now this is the kind of insanity that makes me proud to be a nerd. The Old Murder House Theatre in Austin, Texas specializes in performing movies — usually from the ’80s and ’90s — on stage. Everything from Jurassic Park to Robocop. But the company is now tackling what is perhaps its greatest, and certainly most challenging, work: James Cameron’s Aliens. On ice.

There’s a lot to love in this video: the wigs, the era-appropriate power ballad, the colonial marine armor made of cardboard, the alien made of trash bags… But the best part must be that Newt is played by a fully grown, overweight, bearded man. Well done. If this is what it means to keep Austin weird, may the city never know normalcy.

#NerdGirls Have More Sex

[via Mashable]

Gamers rejoice: female online gamers are more social, happy, sexually and physically active than their non-gaming counterparts, according to a Harris Interactive survey of 2,000 U.S. adults. Gaming is a stress reliever for most of these women (61%), while 16% game online to connect with others.

This GameHouse infographic, first published in VentureBeat, compares the characteristics of women who game online and those who don’t. The study found that 55% of online gamers are women and 45% are men, although the infographic only details findings about women.

Female online gamers are more social than their non-gaming counterparts. Forty-one percent socialize at least once each day in person compared to 31% of non-gamers. They’re also more active on social networks, with 88% of gamers socializing online at least once each day compared to 71% of non-gamers.

More than half of all gaming women (64%) are either married or live with a partner. Fifty-seven percent have sex and 38% have sex at least once a week. Non-gaming women are less sexually active, as 52% have sex and 34% have sex at least once a week.

Thirty-eight percent of female gamers, compared to 28% of non-gamers, have children under the age of 18. The most popular time of day for gaming is between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m., possibly after many moms have put their children to sleep.

Are you surprised by the positive behaviors, such as being more social and happy, associated with online gaming?

Cambodian Trees Will Steal Your Oxygen

According to the Phen Nomh Post, M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘The Happening’ is happening in Cambodia.

A day after 136 students collapsed at a Kompong Cham high school while standing at attention as punishment for not showing deference to the national flag, the local police chief offered a unique explanation for the mass fainting – trees.

“According to the hospital’s analysis, the reason why the students fainted is [because of] the huge tree in the school compound and the farmland surrounding the school, which absorbed the oxygen,” said Heng Meng, police chief of Chamkar Leu district, adding that the punishment could not be blamed as one of the teachers “also [had difficulty breathing] and felt dizzy” […]

A doctor from the local hospital, Iv Then,  said that based on his examination, the lack of oxygen was due to an abundance of trees, which trapped the oxygen, adding that the first four or five students fainted because they were standing under the school’s large medicinal oil tree.

So obviously it was the trees. Not the standing in the sun for hours and hours.  No, not that at all.
